1 - CNS stimulants

  • Dextro-amphetamine (Dexedrine)---dextro-amplified-FEet
  • Dextro-amphetamine/amphetamine (Adderall)-amplified-feetx2
  • Methylphenidate (Ritalin, Concerta)----metal-phoenix
BBW: psych. dependence risk esp. h/x drug dependence/ETOH

Mech.: alpha & beta receptors effects => NorEpi & DA release

Side effects:
  • may cause paradoxical hyperactivity 

2 - Non-CNS stimulants (2nd line)

  • atomoxetine ----2nd/3rd line 
  • bupropion---avoids in pt w/ seizures (buPROP-ion "PROPer behavior" => not for seizures, it's for ADHD)
  • clonidine----adjunct for aggressive
  • guanfacine----adjunct for aggressive  (GU-an-FAC-ine ==> GUM-FACE)

Mech.: affects NorEpi release
Use: less effective than CNS stimulant
