Ppt drug class: osmotic laxatives
MOA: PEG works to soften the fecal mass by osmotically drawing water into the GI tract. It is generally well tolerated; however, possible side effects are bloating, nausea, gas, and diarrhea (with excessive use).
Place in therapy (text): useful for acute complete bowel evacuation prior to GI examination.
Wonder Me's mnemonics: PolyEthylene Glycol the Poly water Gliding => osmotic laxative used in GI exam (think gliding the anoscope!)
