- Most common bacteria for pneumonia is Strep. Pneumonia
- For a healthy pt of less than 60 y/o with no comorbidies:
- Start them on macrolide which is mostly for atypical pneumonia such as walking pneumonia aka mycoplasma pneumonia.
- Or, you can also start them on doxycycline
- For pets with comorbidities or older than 65 y/o:
- Use 1 pill of fluoroquinolone that treats both atypical and typical microbes such as levofloxacin (used almost too often).
- Or 2 pills => 1 beta-lactam and 1 macrolide or doxycycline.
- => You can imagine levofloxacin being 1 pill is the more common one.
