- CURES stands for Controlled substance Utilization Review and Evaluation System
- Only for schedule II, III, IV (note that: schedule V even tho controlled meaning faxed with limited refills, it's not tracked via CURES - those are the drugs that include the blue person ezo, vimpat, lyrica, phenergan with codeine, lomotin, robitussin with codeine)
- A resource for prescribers to know whether patients have got their opoids somewhere already.
- All prescribers required to register by Jul. 2016. However, prescribers do NOT need to use it every time they prescribe opioids. It's probably good to know bc pharmacies may call NP, prescribers, to check if opioids are already given and if prescribers still want to prescribe the drugs to this person or not.
- Helpful to prevent drug shopping.
